What is the First Dance?

The First Dance is truly a magical moment in any wedding ceremony and should be shared with a special song that is sentimental to the couple. The first dance represents harmony, love, unity and commitment between the couple. It’s one of their first few shared activities done together as official partners! This is a tradition, but you and your partner should choose any song that you wish to dance to for your performance. There’s no rules for you in this event. The team at Ministry of DJs will ensure that you and your partner will have a memorable and magical time during your dance as we will have everything prepared in terms of song selection and a good time!

How To Prepare for your First Dance

One thing that may surprise you is that you might want to practice a few steps with your partner. Not everyone is a professional dancer in their day jobs, it’s not easy to step to the beat in a synchronous manner with your partner. To prepare for a graceful dance, here are some things we suggest.

Sit with your partner and discuss a few songs that are meaningful or nostalgic to you and your partner
Find a good rhythm to step/dance to for each one
Reflect with your partner and choose the top song that was easy to dance to, the most fun, and the most joyful.

Is a song they will listen to in future that will remind them of their wedding day

If you and your partner have some trouble deciding on which song you want to dance to, feel free to ask your wedding DJ for some suggestions before your wedding day! A well prepared DJ (any of us at Ministry of DJs) will have a wedding playlist ready for you and your partner to choose a good song from. The song choice is incredibly important as it sets the tone of one of your first few unified activities together as partners.

You want your wedding reception and dance party to be fun, but your first dance is apart from that and deserves to be classy and romantic. One thing you want to avoid (that is surprisingly not always obvious) is choosing a slow song with questionable lyrics. Make sure your romantic song is full of happy and joyful elements! Pay attention to the lyrics carefully before you start practicing for your dance.
